“They’re creating a climate of intellectual conformity that discourages open inquiry, debate, and true learning.”

Too many colleges and universities today are complicit in the discouraging or blocking of controversial ideas from campus, particularly with the creation of “safe spaces.” While they may do it in the name of “protecting” students, what they’re really doing is discouraging free speech and suppressing open and free dialogue. In my new interview with Charles Koch, Chairman and CEO of Koch Industries and author of the great book “Good Profit,” Charles discusses his recent Wall Street Journal op-ed with Michael Bloomberg titled “Why Free Speech Matters on Campus.” Charles explains that innovation and progress are impossible without the freedom to openly challenge and be challenged, especially with controversial ideas. When free speech is stifled, progress and learning are stifled.
