“What happens if, in your youth, you don’t have the good fortune of rubbing up against that person? What would your life be without that person? And that’s what worries me about the things that go on in the inner city. Your family has to put you in the way, on the road, where you can bump into Dave Edwards and Father McHale. Someone has to place you there.”
Behind almost every successful person there is someone, usually a parent, teacher, or coach, who had a profound, life-changing impact on them and put them on the road to success. In my case, it was Father McHale. In the case of Steve Wynn, Chairman and CEO of Wynn Resorts, it was Dave Edwards, head of the English department at Manlius Military Academy. In this episode, Steve and I discuss the importance of having that one person in your life that grabs you by the neck and changes your life for the better. We never forget those people. Sadly, too many of our youth today don’t have mentors or role models like that and go through life without that essential guidance and correction. Steve also shares some more behind-the-scenes information on bringing the Oakland Raiders to Las Vegas.
